Chelsea and Liverpool have both been in touch with Ruben Neves' agent, according to reports.

Neves is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes and the Premier League duo are thought to have been in touch over a deal for the midfielder.

Neves has a £36million release clause and has also attracted interest from Juventus.

But according to Italian publication Calciomercato the Turin side face competition from Chelsea and Liverpool.

The 19-year-old has two caps for Portugal and is a key player for Porto.

Chelsea in particular are looking ahead to the next transfer window after a difficult start to the season.

Antonio Conte has been frustrated by the club’s lack of movement in the transfer market after failing to land his top targets in the summer.

He is desperate to bolster his defence but a move for Neves could signal the end for the likes of John Obi Mikel, Nemanja Matic or Cesc Fabregas.

Liverpool meanwhile have been in good for this season but lack a controlling deep-lying midfielder in the absence of Emre Can, who has missed most of the season so far.

Jordan Henderson has sat deep but he is more comfortable driving forward.

Neves is a sitter who starts attacks from deep and could offer an alternative to Henderson and Can.
