Liverpool are hoping that midfielder Emre Can will be fit for the visit of champions Leicester City to Anfield after the international break.

The 22-year-old won’t feature for Germany in their matches against Finland or Norway as he’s still hampered by the ankle injury he suffered in last week’s EFL Cup win over Burton Albion.

Can, who sat out Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham, reported for international duty with Joachim Low’s squad but was declared unfit for duty.

Liverpool’s medical staff are taking no chances with Can as it’s the same ankle which he damaged last season.

He will continue to have treatment in the hope that he recovers in time for the clash with Leicester on September 10.

Can, who had a shortened pre-season due to Germany’s progress at Euro 2016, has only started one game for the Reds so far this season - shining in the 5-0 demolition of Burton.
