Liverpool are unlikely to sign Borussia Dortmund youngster Christian Pulisic this transfer window, multiple sources have told ESPN FC.

Liverpool lodged a bid of €13 million (£11.1m) for U.S. international winger Pulisic, 17, but one source told ESPN FC that Dortmund are not willing to sell him due to his potential.

However, the source added that Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel may be willing to let Pulisic leave on loan to aid his development.

Pulisic faces tough competition to get regular game time this season, with the likes of Marco Reus, Andre Schurrle, Ousmane Dembele and Emre Mor currently ahead of him in the pecking order at BVB.

Liverpool are admirers of Pulisic, with manager Jurgen Klopp in charge of Dortmund when he joined the German club.

Liverpool appear to have accepted Dortmund's unwillingness to sell this window, with a club source telling ESPN FC that, as things stand, no more incomings are expected before Wednesday's deadline, but they may pursue a deal for Pulisic in the future.

Pennsylvania-born Pulisic joined BVB's academy 18 months ago but was quickly fast-tracked to the first team due to his talent. Last season saw Pulisic become the youngest player to score twice in the Bundesliga.
