Liverpool fears over the fitness of Sadio Mane have eased after scans revealed he did not dislocate his shoulder in a training ground accident.

Medical tests have instead confirmed that the Senegal attacker suffered a muscle injury in his left shoulder after colliding with a teammate during a session at Melwood.

He is an obvious doubt for Saturday’s trip to Burnley, but Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hoping Mane can be back soon after.

Mane, 24, was taken to the Spire hospital in Liverpool following the incident, but was later seen driving away from the training ground, with his left arm in a sling, after first stopping to sign autographs.

A dislocation would have prompted a lengthy spell on the sidelines and Klopp will be relieved at the diagnosis given Mane’s impact on his competitive debut against Arsenal last Sunday following a £30m move from Southampton.

He scored a stunning goal in the 4-3 win and complimented a menacing display with an unrelenting workrate.

The absence of Mane at Turf Moor would open a window of opportunity for Daniel Sturridge, who was left out of the trip to Arsenal last weekend to work on his fitness after a minor hip problem.
