Georginio Wijnaldum is reportedly expected to travel to Merseyside ahead of a £20million transfer to Liverpool this week.

Newcastle midfielder Wijnaldum wants out after the club's relegation to the Championship.

Express Sport understands Reds boss Jurgen Klopp wants to sign the 25-year-old in a £20million deal this week

Wijnaldum has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs including Tottenham and Everton.

But according to the Mirror, Liverpool have been left with a clear run after Tottenham pulled out of the running.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is said to be a big fan of Wijnaldum but agreed with club chiefs that his valuation is too high.

Newcastle paid £14.5m to sign him from PSV Eindhoven last summer but are asking for nearly double now.

The Telegraph claim Newcastle have set a fee of £27m for the former Dutch Player of the Year, but Liverpool are confident of landing their man for £20m.

Liverpool embark on their pre-season tour of the United States on Thursday but are hopeful of wrapping up a deal for Wijnaldum before then.

The Sunderland Echo add Wijnaldum is keen on a move to Anfield and is expected to travel to Merseyside.

He could undergo a medical and finalise his transfer this week.

Liverpool are also closing in on a £4.2m deal for Augsburg defender Ragnar Klavan.

Reports in Germany suggest the Estonia international could undergo a medical today.
