Liverpool are close to sealing a club-record transfer for Porto midfielder Yacine Brahimi, according to reports.

The 26-year-old has been in impressive form for Porto over the last two seasons, scoring 21 goals since arriving from La Liga side Granada in 2014.

And his displays have not gone unnoticed with the Reds and Manchester United being credited with interest in the attacking winger.

However, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Liverpool are on the verge of striking a deal for Brahimi after agreeing to meet the Algerian international's £45million release clause.

If Liverpool were to get a deal over the line then this would prove to be the most expensive transfer in the club's history, eclipsing Andy Carroll's £35million fee that saw him move to Anfield from Newcastle in 2011.

However, there could be a stumbling block with Brahimi as the former Rennes forward being part-owned by consortium Doyen Sports and Porto.

But reports suggest the consortium, who own 50 per cent of his economic rights, are willing to entertain offers above the £30m mark.

Jurgen Klopp has already moved quickly to revamp his squad for next season, with Marko Grujic joining in January and Schalke defender Joel Matip and Mainz keeper Loris Karius already sealing moves to Anfield.
