Liverpool are reportedly interested in Schalke winger Sidney Sam with the Merseyside club rocked by an injury crisis.

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he is looking to strengthen his squad this January and he's already made his first signing at Anfield, with Marko Grujic joining for £5.1million earlier this week.

But the 19-year-old Serbian winger has immediately rejoined Red Star Belgrade on loan for the rest of the season, and Kicker report that Klopp is keen on bringing the 27-year-old German - who's won five caps for his country - to Liverpool.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss has been linked with several moves for players in the Bundesliga since his arrival in England in October.

Sam joined Schalke from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014 for £1.9m but he's found opportunities in Gelsenkirchen limited since Andre Breitenreiter replaced Roberto Di Matteo as manager in the summer.

Sam has made just two appearances this season in the Europa League but a switch from the Bundesliga to the Premier League could reignite his career, with Klopp eager to boost his depleted side at Anfield.

Joachim Low selected Sam for his provisional 30-man squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but he just missed the final cut for the Germany team that went on to become world champions.
