Liverpool are interested in re-signing Xabi Alonso with the midfielder set to quit Bayern Munich, according to reports.

The Spanish star left Anfield six-years ago to join Real Madrid, before moving on to Bayern, but he has always confessed his love for the Reds.

And now Tuttomercatoweb says Liverpool are keen on bringing the player back to Merseyside, with Bayern refusing to give him a new contract.

Alonso’s current deal expires in the summer, meaning he can talk to interested clubs about a summer move from January.

The 33-year-old is also likely to have offers from clubs in MLS and Qatar.
