Marc Pelosi netted twice as Liverpool U21s drew 2-2 with a strong Manchester City outfit at the Academy on Monday.
The American youth international gave the Reds a first-half lead when he fired home after great play from Conor Coady and Krisztian Adorjan.
City levelled on the stroke of half-time after debutant Scott Sinclair hit the post from the penalty spot but Jordi Mayfuila slotted home the rebound.
Liverpool were then denied a blatant penalty when Jordon Ibe was impeded in the area and the Reds' fury was compounded when City were awarded another penalty after a similar incident involving Denis Suarez, who then put City 2-1 up from the spot.
Rodolfo Borrell's young side refused to lie down and deservedly levelled on 82 minutes when Pelosi netted again after some fantastic approach play from the impressive Michael Ngoo.
Liverpool team: Stephens, Wisdom, Robinson (Smith), Sama, Sokolik, Coady, Ibe (McLaughlin), Roddan, Ngoo, Adorjan, Pelosi. Subs unused: Belford, Sinclair, Teixeira.
