Suarez backs donor drive to save lives

Luis Suarez and fellow Uruguayan Sebastian Coates added their name to a long list of Liverpool players who are backing a push for vital donors.

Earlier this week, Martin Kelly and Joe Allen joined teammates Lucas Leiva, Daniel Agger and Brad Jones in showing support for Anthony Nolan, the UK's leading blood cancer charity.

Their support will culminate in a special event at Anfield on Monday, March 25.

During the day, volunteers will be invited to give a small saliva sample and join the Anthony Nolan bone marrow register.

Jones and his partner Dani Lawrence are supporting the event after the goalkeeper tragically lost his son Luca to Leukaemia in November 2011.

The Liverpool FC Foundation are also behind the campaign to recruit donors and the club's Youth Ambassadors will be on hand at the Reds Lounge in the Centenary Stand from 3pm to 7pm on the day.

The charity has nearly 470,000 people on the register but can still only provide a suitable donor to around half of the people in need.
