Rafael Benitez today thanked Paco Herrera for all his hard work at Liverpool as the Spaniard finally left Melwood to take up the role of Technical Director at Espanyol.

Herrera, a good friend of Benitez for over 10 years, arrived on Merseyside in 2004 having managed in Spain with Meridia and Albacete and was instrumental in revamping the club's scouting network and restructing the Reserve set-up.

"Paco has done a very good job in his two years at Liverpool," Benitez told liverpoolfc.tv today. "Now I would like to wish him and his family all the best with his new role at Espanyol."
