Rafa Benitez played down his decision to deploy Steven Gerrard in central midfield following the 3-0 victory over Sunderland.
Journalists quizzed the gaffer on his selection, which paid dividends with a scintillating performance at Anfield.
But the boss responded: "I told him on Saturday he would play in the middle and he was happy.
"But if you analyse the team selection and the position of the players we were more or less the same. We've played Dirk Kuyt as a second striker and Gerrard as a central midfielder in other games and we weren't at this level.
"We won because everyone was playing at their level.
"We can talk about Fernando Torres but we could also talk about Maxi Rodriguez or Glen Johnson or Gerrard. Ryan Babel was trying and you could see Dirk Kuyt was fantastic. That's a lot of players, so everything is positive.
"It was a very good game. In the first half and in parts of the second, maybe it's one of the best this season."
