69-year old Sid Ogwin has today been crowned the Standard Chartered Fan of the Month for November.
Despite being completely blind since the age of 14, Sid hasn't missed a game at Anfield since the 1950s and has only been absent from one European or domestic final during that time.
Sid, pictured below with former manager Rafael Benitez earlier this year, was nominated for the award by Liverpool fan and playwright Nicky Allt.
"I nominated Sid not because of his blindness but simply due to his fanatical unswerving loyalty to The Redmen," said Nicky. "I always thought I was a big Reds' supporter but my following the team pales when I look at Sid's fan record. He is an unbelievable Red."
Sid - who also attends a number of away games - watches home matches from the Centenary Stand alongside a friend who commentates on all the action unfolding on the field. His devotion to the Reds, despite his disability, won the overwhelming backing of our judging panel comprising of LFC Managing Director Ian Ayre, Kop legend Ian Rush, Times' journalist Tony Barrett and Standard Chartered Head of Corporate Affairs Gavin Laws, who were tasked with the job of choosing a winner from this month's short-list of entries.
"Sid is my choice this month because he lives and breathes the atmosphere of the Club despite his disability," said Anfield legend Ian Rush.
Tony Barrett commented: "Attending every game at Anfield since the late 1950s is an incredible achievement in itself and more than sufficient to make Sid a deserved winner of any fans award, but add in the fact he's been registered blind since the age of 14 and it is clear that his commitment to Liverpool goes way beyond the call of duty - a long, long way beyond."
On behalf of everybody at Liverpool Football Club and Standard Chartered, we'd like to congratulate Sid on being crowned Fan of the Month for November.
Nominations are now being invited for the December Fan of the Month.
