The latest episode of LFCTV GO's 'World Cup Reds' feature examines the 1990 tournament, when England came closest to lifting the coveted trophy since their only triumph 24 years earlier.
Bobby Robson's Three Lions reached the semi-finals of the competition in Italy, only to suffer the kind of heartache that would become all too familiar in the years that followed.
John Barnes, Peter Beardsley and Steve McMahon were on duty for their country throughout the World Cup, having helped their club lift an 18th league championship title the previous season.
Five other Reds were also in action, including Glenn Hysen going head-to-head with Gary Gillespie's Scotland, and a meeting of the England trio with the surprise packages of Italia '90. Republic of Ireland coach Jack Charlton called upon the services of three Liverpool stars and it was a member of the Anfield contingent who notched the first goal against England.
