The high standard of Liverpool's performances this season has given Jim Beglin belief that Brendan Rodgers has put firm foundations in place for future success at Anfield.
A former Reds left-back, the 50-year-old knows better than most what it takes to win a league title, having achieved the feat with the club in 1986.
Beglin has confidence that the current team are now in a position to compete on a regular basis, regardless of where his old side finish this season.
"I sincerely hope Liverpool win the title but even if they fall short there's a huge amount to feel good about," the Irishman told the Liverpool Echo.
"The foundations are in place for a sustained period challenging at the top. They're well set to kick on."
Beglin has equally been delighted by the style of football on display under Rodgers, observing real excitement around L4 this season.
He added: "It's been lovely going to Anfield this season and some of the football Liverpool have played has been tremendous - a joy to watch.
"Brendan deserves great credit. The home performances against the likes of Arsenal, Everton and Spurs have been magical. The excitement levels have soared."
