Liverpool U18s slipped to a 2-1 defeat to their Manchester City counterparts at the Academy on Saturday morning.
In an end-to-end contest, the visitors twice hit the woodwork before Alex O'Hanlon fired the Reds into the lead two minutes before the break.
Sam Hart found himself through on goal, but managed to mis-kick; however, O'Hanlon was on hand to steer home.
City responded early in the second period when Brandon Barker drilled through the legs of Andy Firth from a tight angle.
They then went ahead as Bersant Celina clinically netted with a volley from David Roberts' headed clearance.
Liverpool toiled in search of an equaliser, with Sheyi Ojo going closest, but it wasn't to be as City held on for the three points.
Liverpool U18s: Firth, Waldron, Roberts, Cleary, Brewitt, Virtue, O'Hanlon, Phillips, Ojo, Trickett-Smith, Hart. Subs: Travis, Wheeler, Kane, Griffin.
