Steven Gerrard is set to play his 600th game for Liverpool on Sunday and to help celebrate the occasion we have republished a year-by-year picture special of our skipper's outstanding career which was first used to mark his birthday in May.
In 2006, Brazilian icon Pele labelled Gerrard "absolutely world class," and declared: "If I was a manager, everywhere I went, I would buy him."
Zinedine Zidane hailed the Huyton-born midfielder as the world's best in 2009, adding: "He gives the players around him confidence and belief. You can't learn that - players like him are just born with that presence."
But Thierry Henry best encapsulated Gerrard's Anfield legacy when he remarked: "For me, and I have always said this, Stevie will be regarded as one of the greatest midfielders ever when he finishes his career. No doubt.
"The guy is always putting his foot in, always scoring and doing what he has to do to make his team win. He, for me, is Liverpool."
