French striker Djibril Cisse arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2004 to play under a different manager to the one who signed him, and experienced a whirlwind and dramatic two years with the club.
Gerard Houllier had pinpointed the explosive forward as a potential addition and Cisse was linked with a move to Liverpool for several seasons before the dream became a reality courtesy of a club record £14million fee.
But Houllier had already been replaced by Rafael Benitez and the former Auxerre man experienced a start to forget with the Reds - a broken leg suffered at Blackburn in October 2004 rendered Cisse unavailable for six months.
To his credit, Djibril worked hard to return and capped off the Premier League campaign with a double over Aston Villa at Anfield. The French international was then introduced as a substitute in Istanbul and confidently knocked home a spot-kick in the victorious shoot-out.
Fully fit and determined to prove his value, Cisse was a regular throughout the 2005-06 season - although often from the bench - and was the Reds' second-highest scorer with 19 strikes.
He changed the game after entering the European Super Cup action against CSKA Moscow, scoring twice himself and creating another for Luis Garcia to ensure Liverpool lifted another trophy.
The forward was on target with a beautiful, curling effort during the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park and built up an impressive scoring streak with his speed and movement as the season approached its climax.
Cisse blasted home a perfect volley to begin the FA Cup final comeback against West Ham at the Millennium Stadium; the Frenchman could pick up a winner's medal on his last appearance for the club before a loan and later permanent move to Marseille.
