Emre Can will sit out Germany's friendly with Spain on Friday night due to the back injury that forced his withdrawal against Watford last weekend.

The Liverpool midfielder was taken off midway through the first half of the 5-0 win at Anfield but the issue was not deemed serious enough to prevent him from joining up with his country.

Can has not recovered sufficiently to participate tomorrow evening but may be back in contention when Joachim Low’s side host Brazil in Berlin next Tuesday.

“Emre Can will not be in the squad tomorrow because of the back problem he brought with him from Liverpool,” said the Germany coach.

“He tried to train yesterday but broke it off because it was pinching a bit. Maybe Saturday he can return to training and hopefully play a role against Brazil.”
