Simon Mignolet will return to the Liverpool goal when Jürgen Klopp's side face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Belgian missed the midweek draw with West Bromwich Albion after sustaining an ankle knock in the preceding game against Everton, but the manager confirmed that the No.22 is set to reclaim his place on the south coast.

Adam Lallana, who played four games on loan for the Cherries earlier in his career, is in contention to be part of the matchday squad as he aims to build on a single appearance since being ruled out with a thigh injury in pre-season.

“Adam is back in full and normal training; if nothing changed since yesterday then he will be ready for the squad at least,” Klopp explained at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

Elsewhere, the Reds must check on the fitness of Daniel Sturridge, who has missed the past two matches, and Joe Gomez. Minor knocks should not prevent James Milner and Andy Robertson from being available.

Defensive trio Nathaniel Clyne, Joel Matip and Alberto Moreno remain sidelined.

Eddie Howe has no new injury concerns ahead of Liverpool’s visit, though the Bournemouth boss will carefully assess the condition of his squad after back-to-back away trips to Crystal Palace and Manchester United in the past week.

“The key is we have to make sure everyone can play at their best levels. I want the players to be fresh enough to perform, I will speak to the players concerned and see how they feel,” he said.

The Cherries claimed four points from their two meetings with the Reds last term, and Howe added: “They’re a different team this year and will be extremely tough on Sunday.

“We know how big a challenge it will be, Liverpool have added quality and in attack they excel with their pace, technique and movement. They’re a formidable outfit and they’re getting better and improving all the time.”
