Liverpool v West Brom: Live matchday blog

Liverpool were held to a second consecutive home draw as West Bromwich Albion claimed a point with a goalless stalemate at Anfield.

Post-match

Klopp: "It was not a game for 20 chances, but I think we had seven or eight and we all know the boys usually score in moments like this."

Post-match

Klopp: "We were ready to work hard for one moment, but it didn't happen. If you don't score in football, you always have to accept the result."

Post-match

Klopp: "First half it was a little bit stiff and the timing of the movements were not what they should have been, passing was not good enough, a little bit too late. But even in the half, we had two big chances and two other chances.

"Second half was better and we changed the system a few times to bring them more trouble."

93

Full Time

A frustrating night for Liverpool as it ends goalless at Anfield against West Bromwich Albion.

90

Three minutes of added time to be played...

86

Oxlade-Chamberlain's low whack is blocked by Foster.

84

Off the line!

Now Solanke has one cleared off the line from Oxlade-Chamberlain's pull back.

82

Disallowed Goal

Liverpool think they've taken the lead as Solanke nudges in Gomez's low cross...  but the referee calls a handball and it's ruled out.

80

Substitution

Joe Gomez is on for Alexander-Arnold.

79

Substitution

Another change for the Baggies, Brunt is on for Krychowiak.

76

Substitution

Double change for Liverpool - Solanke and Oxlade-Chamberlain on, Mane and Wijnaldum off.

71

Substitution

West Brom make the game's first change with Robson-Kanu going off and Rodriguez coming on.

68

Yellow Card

Can goes into the book for a barge on Robson-Kanu.

65

Foster drops an attempted catch from his own punch and Wijnaldum almost nudges in, but Evans is on hand to thump it clear just in front of the lin.

64

Coutinho lines up a free-kick from 25 yards, but it lacks the pace to beat Foster.

57

Chance

Alexander-Arnold's attempted centre takes a deflection and breaks for Salah, but it's moving too fast for him to react to turn it in with his head.

56

Chance

Liverpool break and Firmino cuts the ball back for Mane, who scoops wide under pressure from 12 yards out.

53

Coutinho's scooped pass forward almost picks out Salah's dart into space, but Foster is out to claim.

51

Another chance for the Baggies as Hegazi rises to meet a short-corner routine, but nods over the bar.

51

Yacob meets the resulting corner with a near-post header that Karius needs to tip over.

50

Krychowiak hoists in a free-kick from the left which drifts towards goal and needs Karius to push it over the crossbar

46

Kick-Off

Back under way

Phil Coutinho re-starts the second half, where the score remains 0-0 at Anfield.

The tale of the first half in numbers...

Half Time

Goalless at the break

The first half reaches its conclusion without a goal as the teams return to the dressing rooms with the scoreline tied at 0-0.

42

Firmino bursts beyond two defenders on the left and into the area. He shoots but it's blocked... it breaks for Salah, but again a West Brom man gets in the way.

38

Alexander-Arnold's searching cross from the right almost picks out Salah unmarked in the centre for a tap in; however, it's just a yard too far in front of him.

31

Coutinho shifts the ball onto his right 20 yards out and shoots. Foster collects.

30

Off the bar

Robson-Kanu scoops one towards goal from 25 yards while falling backwards... it bounces off the top of Karius' crossbar and goes behind.

28

Coutinho's ping forward from deep almost picks out Salah's run in-behind, but it bounces through to Foster before our top scorer can reach it.

24

Alexander-Arnold pounces on the ball, strides forward and shoots low... blocked by a defender.

22

Yacob meets Nyom's centre with a firm header, but he plants it over the bar and into the Kop.

19

Robertson meets Hegazi's half-clearance from Alexander-Arnold's cross with a crisp half-volley, but it cannons against Livermore and the danger subsides for West Brom.

17

Chance

Liverpool finally carve open West Brom - and it almost results in a goal.

Mane's beautiful flick finds Salah on the right. He sends in a searching ball towards the back post on the diagonal, which Firmino meets back side-foots across goal and wide.

Unlucky.

10

Liverpool have seen all of the ball in these opening exchanges, but we're still awaiting the game's first opportunity on goal.

Mo's view

We've been speaking to Mohamed Salah ahead of tonight's game, and the Egyptian wants to use the meeting with the Baggies to produce an immediate response to derby disappointment.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: "All of us were disappointed after that game but that was the result and we have to carry on. The next game is an important game for us at home, we have to get the three points and look forward."

This Is Anfield

The manager's programme notes make for particularly interesting reading this evening given they come in the aftermath of the Merseyside derby.

Klopp writes: "Accepting that the result is always king, as manager of this team I still cannot ignore the many, many positive aspects to how we played on Sunday. That is as a team and the performance of individuals."

The German goes on to praise Dominic Solanke, Danny Ings and Andy Robertson for their contributions - read it here.
