A number of Liverpool players were involved for their countries as the latest round of international fixtures got under way on Thursday.

It was a disappointing night for Georginio Wijnaldum, who played 90 minutes for the Netherlands as they were beaten 4-0 by France in their World Cup qualifier at Stade de France.

In Group H, goalkeeper Simon Mignolet watched from the bench during Belgium’s 9-0 thrashing of Gibraltar while Ragnar Klavan helped Estonia to a goalless draw in Greece.

Mohamed Salah was unable to prevent Egypt from suffering a 1-0 defeat at Uganda in the African qualifying section, but Philippe Coutinho came on to score for Brazil as they continued their domination in South America with a 2-0 win over Ecuador. Roberto Firmino was an unused substitute.
