Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain today joined Liverpool from Arsenal on a long-term contract – find out more about the Reds' latest signing with our 10 facts…

Born in Portsmouth on August 15, 1993, Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Southampton’s youth academy at the age of seven.

Such was his sporting prowess as a child, Oxlade-Chamberlain could have pursued a career in either cricket or rugby union.

“I got Hampshire trials as a wicketkeeper-batsman but I couldn’t go because of football,” he told the Telegraph in 2012. “It was the same with rugby. The scout for London Irish enquired about me to my teacher. He told him there was no chance because I wanted to be a footballer.”

At 16 years and 111 days old, Oxlade-Chamberlain became Southampton’s second-youngest ever player when he came off the bench in a 5-0 League One win over Huddersfield Town in March 2010. Coincidentally, Adam Lallana also played for the Saints in that match.

After quickly establishing himself as a regular in Southampton’s first team at the age of just 17, Oxlade-Chamberlain was named in the 2010-11 League One PFA Team of the Year.

A move to Arsenal followed in August 2011. He became the youngest English goalscorer in Champions League history in the Gunners’ 2-1 win over Olympiacos a month later.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s impressive debut campaign with Arsenal saw him named in England’s squad for Euro 2012.

Having made his full international debut aged 18 in a pre-tournament friendly against Norway, Oxlade-Chamberlain has gone on to win 27 senior international caps to date, scoring six goals.

One of those goals came in a 2-2 friendly draw with Brazil in a game staged to mark the re-opening of the iconic Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro in June 2013.

Oxlade-Chamberlain comes from a footballing family. His father Mark was also an England international in the 1980s, while his uncle Neville played for the likes of Port Vale and Stoke City and his younger brother Christian is a current professional with Portsmouth.

In all competitions, Oxlade-Chamberlain made 198 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 20 goals. He won three FA Cups during his time at Emirates Stadium.
