Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Dominic Solanke have been called up to the England U21s squad for games against the Netherlands and Latvia in September.

Alexander-Arnold is handed his maiden opportunity at the age group after making an impressive start to the season for Liverpool, including a goal in the Champions League last week.

Gomez, who made his first Premier League start for 23 months against Crystal Palace at the weekend, returns to international duty as he continues to progress following long-term injury.

And Reds striker Solanke steps up a level for his country having been a key figure in England U20s’ victorious World Cup campaign during the summer.

Aidy Boothroyd’s team take on the Netherlands away from home on Friday September 1 and then host Latvia four days later, in European U21 Championship qualifiers.
