Emre Can came off the bench as Germany defeated Chile 1-0 in the final of the Confederations Cup on Sunday night.

Liverpool midfielder Can was introduced with 12 minutes remaining and helped Joachim Low's team see out a victory earned by Lars Stindl's 20th-minute goal.

Chile enjoyed the better of the start to an entertaining contest in St Petersburg but a costly defensive error from the Copa America holders changed the course of the game.

Marcelo Diaz gifted the ball to Timo Werner, who unselfishly squared to Stindl to roll home what proved to be the decisive goal.
