Liverpool v Bournemouth: Live matchday blog

Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Bournemouth after Josh King's late goal rescued a point for the visitors at the death. Benik Afobe's early effort gave the visitors the lead, but it was cancelled out by strikes from Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi. However, King scrambled in on 87 minutes to force a draw.

The manager's verdict

Jürgen Klopp gave his thoughts on Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth in his post-match press conference, where he reflected on his side's performance, the result and the decision to withdraw Philippe Coutinho in the second half.

Click here to read what the boss had to say.

JK: "Tomorrow, we have to take it like it is, it is one point more than before, not what we wanted but it could feel worse. We have lost games like this already this season."

JK: "When the game starts like this, it is pretty unlikely it will be the perfect game... We have to get fresh legs, recovery and then we go to Stoke."

JK: "We left [the game] open and then the second ball after a set-piece... it was not nice, but we have to take it."

JK: "We could have scored a third; we had the chances and the counter-attacks. We had to change Phil because he felt sick at half-time and vomited. He feels better now, but there's no joy when you have to take the best player in the pitch at the moment off."

Jürgen Klopp: "The start was not good, not only the goal we conceded. We were a little bit late in mind, we were not really concentrated... When you start like this it makes the game more difficult."

Full-time

The numbers

Take a look at the stats from a frustrating evening for the Reds below.

Full Time

Liverpool 2-2 Bournemouth

A late goal for the Cherries forces the Reds to settle for a share of the points. A disappointing evening at Anfield.

90+1

An Emre Can cross is headed back across goal but Klavan can't beat Boruc in the Bournemouth net with his own header.

90

Four minutes added time...

87

Goal

Liverpool 2-2 Bournemouth (King)

Oh no.

Another ball into the box isn't cleared probably and King benefits from a fortuitous bounce to sidefoot home.

86

Worrying moments for Liverpool as a couple of balls into the box cause concern.

The Reds just about manage to get it away but this is going to be a siege.

83

Lucas wins (yet another) header but he gets a bang on the head for his troubles.

A break in play while the Brazilian gets looked at.

76

Origi nearly gets away on the counter but can't quite get the ball under control.

Bournemouth leaving spaces now as they push for an equaliser.

71

Match shot

Divock Origi celebrates his Kop-end goal.

65

Substitution

Joel Matip takes the place of Philippe Coutinho as Liverpool opt for a change of shape.

59

Goal

Liverpool 2-1 Bournemouth (Origi)

Get in!

A brilliant first-time Coutinho pass gives Wijnaldum space in the box and the Dutchman gives his marker twisted blood before dinking the ball onto the head of Origi, who does the rest.

56

Clyne fancies another shot from the edge of the box but this time his left-footed effort is wild and wide.

Liverpool in control.

52

Can slides Clyne into space on the right and the defender picks out a great ball across goal.

Origi can't get onto it, though, and Bournemouth escape.

48

Wow!

Clyne cuts in off the right and thunders an effort at goal, which comes back off the crossbar when it looked bound for the top corner.

So unlucky for the right-back.

46

Kick-Off

Bournemouth restart the game, with Liverpool attacking the Kop end.

Half-time

Match shot

Phil celebrates his equalising goal.

Half-time

Elsewhere

As things stand, Tottenham are trailing to Swansea, Manchester City are losing to Chelsea and Arsenal are being held at home by West Ham.

Three points here could give the Reds a huge boost in their bid for a top-four finish.

Half Time

Liverpool 1-1 Bournemouth

The Reds get a free-kick in a promising area but Lee Mason isn't going to let them take it.

The referee brings the half to a close before James Milner gets the chance to swing the ball in - much to the No.7's ire.

45

A sweeping move started by a fired Lovren pass almost ends in Coutinho heading a Firmino cross.

Bournemouth get the block in, though, and eventually get the ball away.

40

Goal

Liverpool 1-1 Bournemouth (Coutinho)

The Reds are level!

Origi lays the ball into the path of Firmino who picks out an eye-of-the-needle ball to put Coutinho in one on one.

The No.10 just about sorts his feet out in time to slot it in and the hosts are back in business.

33

Coutinho takes a free-kick from the right-hand side of the box and tries to surprise Boruc by firing it goalward but his effort only loops onto the top of the net.

Good thinking but unlucky.

28

Match shot

Divock chases the ball up top.

25

Wijnaldum controls a clearance at the edge of the box and drills a low effort at goal.

Unfortunately, Boruc is equal to it and gets down well to hold the ball

21

Bournemouth almost double their lead as a flicked-on corner finds Pugh and his volley whistles past the post.

18

Liverpool piling the pressure on the Cherries now, winning a succession of corners.

And Origi goes close to turning one home but can only send a left-footer wide of the post.

11

Origi fires a left-footed effort just wide from the edge of the box before a break in play as Arter receives treatment.

7

Goal

Liverpool 0-1 Bournemouth (Afobe)

Wijnaldum plays a blind pass back to Mignolet, which Afobe anticipates before poking home.

A bad start for the Reds but still plenty of time to atone.

1

A great start from Liverpool as a slick exchange from left to right allows Firmino to get a shot off.

His effort is tipped over and the Reds get a corner.

1

Kick-Off

Gini Wijnaldum gets the game under way, with Liverpool attacking the Anfield Road end first half

The view from Bournemouth

So, what's Eddie Howe expecting from this evening's game?

"We've played well there recently but not got any points, the next challenge is to go there and get something."

Team news

So, with just less than five hours to go until the teams are named, how are the Reds shaping up?

Liverpool will definitely be without the services of Sadio Mane this evening after the winger picked up a knee injury against Everton, while Joel Matip and Emre Can remain doubts.

However, Daniel Sturridge could well make a return to the squad after coming back into training this week.

The mini-table below shows just how key this midweek round of Premier League fixtures could be in deciding who finishes in the top four.

While Liverpool take on Bournemouth later, Chelsea host Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur visit Swansea City and Arsenal face West Ham United.

Last night, Manchester United and seventh-placed Everton played out a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

A win over the Cherries would certainly do no harm to the Reds' ambitions of qualifying for the Champions League, that's for sure!
