Jürgen Klopp believes his Liverpool squad have what it takes to put recent frustrations behind them and achieve their ambitions over the coming years.

The manager accepts results over the last few weeks, including the EFL Cup semi-final defeat to Southampton, have been a source of disappointment, but believes responding to such setbacks is part of the learning curve for the players.

He wrote in his column in ‘This is Anfield’: “I am not immune to the sense, around us in this moment, that the sun is not shining as brightly on us compared with a month ago. This is the world we live in and it is football. But I cannot allow that to become a factor that distracts us or affects the team.

“We are still in the early stages of our journey and development. I know that all these experiences, good and not so good, are valuable if we use them properly and take the information from them that helps us.

“This team and these players have the capability and character to achieve special things for our club. They have proved repeatedly they have all the qualities we require to reach where we want to be. We have taken a few knocks in recent weeks, but this is part of our process.

“This afternoon, in another early kick off, we face Wolverhampton Wanderers and we know they come here to make life difficult for us and end our participation in the other domestic cup.

“This will be a really difficult game and a big test for us. But if we have the same positive attitude and approach today as we did on Wednesday, I am confident in what we can achieve.”
