Jürgen Klopp admitted to frustration as he left Old Trafford on Sunday evening, given that his side were six minutes away from securing a valuable victory at the home of their rivals.

“I think, over the whole 98 minutes or whatever, we would have deserved the win,” said the manager in his post-match press conference, where he also discussed the performances of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Emre Can.

After the game, Divock Origi explained how Liverpool approached the contest with the expectation of a physical battle against their fierce foes.

The striker, who featured for an hour before being replaced by the returning Philippe Coutinho, also outlined the importance of a strong run-in by the Reds.

There was high praise for Alexander-Arnold from a fellow Liverpool defender, Ragnar Klavan, after the youngster stepped in for the injured Nathaniel Clyne at Old Trafford.

Sadio Mane watch

The forward helped Senegal make a positive start to their Africa Cup of Nations campaign on Sunday night, converting a penalty 10 minutes into a 2-0 win over Tunisia.

Mane and his country will be back in action in Group B when they face Zimbabwe on Thursday evening – their second game of the tournament in Gabon.

The Reds and the Red Devils clashed again on Monday night, this time at U23 level, with the clubs’ respective Academy teams locking horns under the floodlights at Anfield.
