Jordan Henderson is set to reach a landmark in the meeting with his former club. The midfielder, who played 71 league games for Sunderland, could make the 250th Premier League appearance of his career. He made his Reds debut against the Black Cats at Anfield in August 2011.

Jürgen Klopp's side have scored 17 goals in five home league games this season. Not since 1980-81, when they scored 19, have they netted more on their own ground at this stage. They also found the net 17 times in 1987-88 and 2009-10.

The Reds need two goals to record 900 at Anfield in the Premier League, while they are six short of bringing up 150 in league clashes with today's visitors on this ground.

The last Liverpool player to score a hat-trick against Sunderland was Roger Hunt, at Anfield in February 1966. He is one of only four men to achieve the feat for the club.

James Milner has scored more league goals in his career against Sunderland (and also Hull City) than against any other team. His five strikes have come while playing for Leeds United, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Manchester City.

Liverpool have conceded only 12 goals to Sunderland at Anfield in the last 23 top-flight meetings, with six of those coming in the last six clashes.

By scoring in the last home game, against Watford, Georginio Wijnaldum became the 25th different player to find the net for the Reds under Klopp.

The Reds have not lost for 10 league games – their longest sequence since December 2014 to March 2015, when they were undefeated in 13 matches.

Sunderland went 10 matches this season before picking up their first league win, a 2-1 victory at Bournemouth. Victor Anichebe and Jermain Defoe (with a penalty) netted the crucial goals.

In six away league games this season, the Black Cats have shipped only eight goals. They have not conceded more than twice in any league game on the road since Tottenham Hotspur netted four against them in January.

Their 12 league goals this season have come from just three players - the lowest number of scorers currently in the top flight. Defoe has seven, Anichebe three and Patrick van Aanholt has netted the other two.
