Georginio Wijnaldum insists he is unperturbed by Liverpool's new position two points off the summit of the Premier League.

Last weekend's 0-0 draw with Southampton combined with a Chelsea victory at Middlesbrough ensured Jürgen Klopp's team relinquished their grip on top spot - but that is 'no problem', according to Wijnaldum.

The Dutchman believes the Reds' brief stint in first place serves as little more than proof that they are in fine fettle.

In fact, he is only concerned about regaining that lofty position when it matters most: after 38 fixtures have been played.

"[It's] no problem because I prefer to stand at the number one spot at the end of the season than now. It's early," he told Premier League Productions.

"It's a sign that you are on a good way when you are in the number one spot but it says nothing because the season is so long that everything can happen in a season.

"I don't mind that we are second now, I want to make sure and do everything to be there at the end of the season. That would make me really happy."

Prior to the last international break, Wijnaldum broke his Reds duck as he fired home the sixth goal of an Anfield thrashing of Watford.

But there is another statistic that has followed the 26-year-old to his new club that he is keen to put to bed as soon as possible.

All 12 of the strikes he has managed across 49 league outings for both Newcastle United and Liverpool have come in home games.

And, while he is happy simply to find the back of the net in any game, Gini now wants the new experience of sparking wild celebrations among the away supporters.

"I don't know, it's strange isn't it? To be fair, it doesn't bother me where I score," he added.

"It's always good to score. It was more a thing for the media that I don't score away from home.

"Of course, I want to score away from home, I want to score everywhere, but if I can score goals I will be happy.

"Last season, I scored 11 goals - for a midfielder in a relegated team that's a lot of goals.

"I was happy with that, I wasn't bothered that I didn't score away goals, I was bothered that we didn't win away more.

"But I look forward to scoring an away goal because that will be something different for me now."
