Liverpool v Hull City: Live matchday blog

Liverpool recorded an emphatic 5-1 victory over Hull City at Anfield thanks to two James Milner penalties and goals from Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho.

That's all from Anfield

So, it's time for us to sign off after another great afternoon's work for the Reds at Anfield. Thanks for following, we'll be back again next weekend with Jürgen and co for live coverage of the clash with Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

Goodnight!

The manager's verdict

"The first half was brilliant. That was how football should be if you are able to do it. You have to show this. In the first few minutes you could really see how strong Hull could be in counter-attacks – really good, really strong and difficult to defend. We showed it in analysis but I saw there was a little bit of a surprise about the speed and power of Hull in these situations. Nothing happened and then we played football. We were really strong in possession today. But the most impressive thing today was the counter-pressing in the game, with this big number of possession. I think it was the best game in counter-pressing that we have played until now."

Full Time

The full-time whistle sounds and Liverpool secure a commanding 5-1 victory over Hull City at Anfield.

Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho added to two successful James Milner penalties to wrap up the win.

Hull grabbed a consolation through David Meyler, but the Tigers had Ahmed Elmohamady sent off in the first half for handball on the goal line.

86

Sturridge almost weaves his way into a shooting position with some nimble footwork. Unlucky.

73

Substitution

Emre Can and Marko Grujic are on for Liverpool, replacing Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho.

71

Goal

No mistake from James Milner!

His second of the afternoon and 5-1 here at Anfield now!

70

Liverpool have a second penalty after Daniel Sturridge is tripped in the box by Robertson.

68

Substitution

Liverpool make their first change and Adam Lallana is given an incredible reception by the home fans as he makes way for Daniel Sturridge.

59

The ball breaks invitingly for Wijnaldum inside the box at a corner, but he only hook his half-volley straight at Marshall. Unlucky - either side and it would have surely been in.

52

Goal

GOAL! PHILIPPE COUTINHO!

Liverpool restore their three-goal cushion instantly as Philippe Coutinho collects the ball 25 yards from goal and lets fly with one of his trademark long-range strikes right into the corner. Lovely, lovely goal.

51

Goal

Hull pull a goal back as David Meyler lashes home a loose ball from a corner. 3-1 now at Anfield.

Kick-Off

SECOND HALF

Liverpool get us back underway at Anfield.

Here are your first-half stats from Anfield...

45

Half Time

Liverpool go into the break holding a three-goal lead over 10-man Hull thanks to strikes from Adam Lallana, James Milner (penalty) and Sadio Mane.

So far, so good for the Reds.

45

Wijnaldum's header is denied on the goal line by a sprawling stop from Marshall after Liverpool carved Hull open again.

44

Coutinho runs into space and shoots low at goal, but it's straight at Marshall.

37

Yellow Card

Yellow card for Mason following a late challenge on Coutinho.

36

Goal

GOAL! SADIO MANE!

Liverpool grab a third as Mane picks up Lallana's pass in acres of space just inside the area, turns and dispatches a shot into the bottom corner with Marshall motionless.

35

Wijnaldum and Firmino exchange passes on the edge of the box before the former's blast is repelled by Marshall.

33

Substitution

Hull make a change after going down to 10 men with David Meyler coming on for Adam Diomande.

32

It's nearly 3-0 as Mane has a shot deflected ont the crossbar from the edge of the area. From the resulting corner, the ball is worked to the No.19, who curls over the crossbar from just inside the box.

30

Goal

And it's 2-0 as James Milner makes no mistake from the penalty spot!

Get in!

29

Red Card

Hull have Ahmed Elmohamady sent off as he blocks Coutinho's shot on the goal line with his hand.

Liverpool have a penalty...

25

Liverpool threaten again, but Milner is prevented from heading home Lallana's cross by some good defending from Snodgrass.

24

Match shot

Liverpool celebrate Adam Lallana's opening goal at Anfield.

21

Adam Lallana produces a block tackle on Snodgrass right in front of Jürgen Klopp, who reacts with a series of fist pumps towards the Main Stand.

19

Yellow Card

James Milner is booked after a tackle on Robert Snodgrass.

17

Goal

GOAL! ADAM LALLANA!

After knocking on the door, Liverpool finally have the lead - and it's come from the left boot of Adam Lallana, who collects a pass from Coutinho inside a crowded box and hooks a low shot into the corner to break the deadlock.

9

Liverpool squander a brilliant chance to open the scoring as Mane's low cross deflects into Coutinho's path yards from goal, but the Brazilian can't connect properly to turn it over the line and it's cleared from right on the goal line by Robertson.

8

Milner's free-kick is half cleared to the edge of the Hull box, where Henderson lashes a volley wide.

7

Yellow Card

Huddlestone picks up a yellow card after a high challenge on Henderson.

5

Great work from Milner down the left takes him past two men, but his attempted cross is headed behind for a Liverpool corner.

The vice-skipper takes the set piece himself and Matip bullets a header into the Anfield Road.

3

A fine challenge from James Milner on the edge of his own box prevents Abel Hernandez from getting a shot in on Loris Karius' goal.

Meteorological update

Fear not, weather fans - it's time.

It's currently 16 degrees in Liverpool and slightly cloudy, which means you could probably get away with wearing a light jacket today in my opinion.

It could reach highs of 19 degrees later, according to those who know more about this sort of thing than me.
