Nathaniel Clyne has insisted he remains fresh after a gruelling first season with Liverpool, as his focus turns to England's Euro 2016 campaign.

The defender ended 2015-16 as the Reds' most-used outfield player, clocking up 52 appearances in all competitions.

But he is adamant that there is still plenty left in the tank as Roy Hodgson's team head out to France for the European Championships.

And the right-back can't wait to get going at what will be the first major tournament of his career.

“I still have a lot left in the tank to continue through the tournament,” said Clyne.

“I am young and fresh and hopefully I can get more experience by playing in this tournament as it is my first tournament.

“This is what you see as a little kid when you watched England on TV so I am looking forward to it and hopefully it will be a good tournament.

“I was on holiday for the last tournament and I watched it on television in a Miami hotel so I am excited - everyone wants to be playing for their country.”

Clyne's debut campaign on Merseyside saw Liverpool suffer defeat in the finals of both the Capital One Cup and the Europa League.

But he is using that double disappointment as motivation this summer, and added: “I guess it urges me on to do well.

“I’ve been through losing two cup finals, which is disappointing, but it urges me on to do better and try to win this time.”
