Debuts...

On this day in 1984, John Wark had a Liverpool debut to remember as it took him just 54 minutes to open his goalscoring account away to Watford at Vicarage Road.

Ronny Rosenthal also made his first appearance in a Liverpool shirt on this day, as the loanee came off the bench in the 70th minute at Anfield in a 3-2 win over Southampton back in 1990.

Crouch crushes the Gunners...

Peter Crouch netted his first treble at club level in 2007 as Arsenal were thrashed at Anfield.

The striker scored a 'perfect' hat-trick - consisting of a right-footed finish, a header and a left-footed strike - to secure possession of the matchball.

The Reds ran out 4-1 victors, with Crouch kicking off the scoring in the fourth minute and then grabbing his second 10 minutes before half-time.

Daniel Agger headed in to make it 3-0 on the hour mark before William Gallas pulled one back for the visitors.

Crouch then grabbed his third courtesy of a wonderful turn and finish in the 82nd minute.

Gerrard rocket downs United...

In 2001, Steven Gerrard produced a trademark thunderbolt to help Liverpool record their first double over Manchester United for 22 years.

The Reds had beaten their arch-rivals at Old Trafford earlier in the season and they were well on their way to condemning United to another defeat after 15 minutes on Merseyside.

Gerrard struck from long range before Robbie Fowler fired in a second to put the hosts in complete control.

Gerard Houllier's side overcame the dismissal of Danny Murphy in the second half to close the game out and secure an important three points.

Reds reach Wembley...

Roy Evans' Liverpool side reached the 1996 FA Cup final by beating Aston Villa in a semi-final tie at Old Trafford on this day.

A brace from a 20-year-old Fowler and a late goal from Jason McAteer set up a date with Manchester United at Wembley.
