Liverpool are facing the Saints for the third time this season.

The Reds are unbeaten in the last five meetings between the teams in league and cup.

There has never been a goalless draw in the 40 league meetings at Southampton. The only two in 81 league meetings have come at Anfield, with the last coming in May 2000.

The Reds have won their last two league visits to Southampton. Only once before have they recorded a third successive league win here - that came in 1996-97.

The Reds' biggest away win at Southampton in the top-flight was 3-0 in March 2014.

Divock Origi's hat-trick in the League Cup last December was the first ever by a Liverpool player at Southampton and only their fourth against the Saints - with Robbie Fowler (twice) scoring three in a league game (October 1993 and January 1999 – both at Anfield) and Sam Raybould in the FA Cup in 1906.

Adam Lallana played 265 times for Saints in league and cup, scoring 60 times, while Dejan Lovren made 31 appearances for Southampton in his only season at St Mary's, netting twice, with one of those coming at Anfield.

Christian Benteke has scored in each of his last two league games against Saints, including Aston Villa's goal in a 6-1 defeat on this ground at the back end of last season. The Belgian's next goal will be his 50th in the top flight.

Philippe Coutinho scored his first away goal for the Reds at St. Mary’s in a 3-1 defeat in March 2013. He has scored in two of his last three visits.

Roberto Firmino is the Reds' leading scorer in the league with eight. He has scored in three of the last four top-flight games.

A Liverpool win would take them above Southampton with two games still in hand. Three points would also take them level with Manchester United, for a couple of hours at least.

Liverpool have won each of their last three league games. They have not won four in a row since March 2015 when they won five in succession.

The last time Liverpool lost at St. Mary's, Nathaniel Clyne and Lallana were in the Saints team.

Ronald Koeman has won two of his 10 games against Liverpool as a coach, with both victories coming as Benfica coach in the Champions League in 2006. As Saints boss in league and cup his record is one draw and three defeats.

Just days into the New Year the Saints were 13th in the table. Since then they have lost just two of the last 10, winning six.
