Divock Origi admits his first taste of cup final action with Liverpool has made him even ‘hungrier for success’.

The Belgian striker came off the bench in Sunday’s Capital One Cup final loss to Manchester City and made a big impact during his cameo appearance.

City goalkeeper Willy Caballero denied the 20-year-old from grabbing the winning goal with a good save from his header in extra-time.

The ‘keeper then emerged as the hero in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw, to give the Manuel Pellegrini's side the honour and leave the Reds devastated.

“It’s very painful to lose in this way,” Origi said. “For me it was my first final. This is a scenario I didn’t want to think of before the game.

“It was a tough game but we played with a big heart and at the end we had a lot of chances.

“I just tried to show my qualities. I had some good moments. I am always giving my maximum for the team.

“Seeing Manchester City lift the trophy was very painful. I’m still young and I still have to learn a lot but I’ll come back stronger. This experience makes me hungrier for success.”

Attention now quickly turns to Wednesday night’s Barclays Premier League clash with City at Anfield.

And Origi says he and his teammates need to recover from their Wembley heartache in order to finish off the campaign in strong fashion.

He added: “To lose is very disappointing but you have to move on. We have to be positively aggressive for the next games. It’s painful but we have to learn from this and move forward.

“We still have the Europa League and we have still have the league. We have to try to stay positive and take the maximum we can from the rest of the season.”
