Nathaniel Clyne believes the brilliance of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho can help Liverpool in their quest to finish the season strongly and pick up some silverware.

The two attackers have recently returned from injury and made quite the impact in Sunday’s 6-0 win over Aston Villa in the Barclays Premier League.

The Reds face Manchester City at Wembley later this month to battle for the Capital One Cup and Clyne reckons the duo can continue to give the side an attacking boost - although firstly, they'll be aiming to continue their pursuit of Europa League glory against FC Augsburg tonight.

He said: “Sturridge and Coutinho are both quality players. They are massive for us. They can get us goals and offer a real attacking threat.

“It is good to have them back and you can see the difference their quality makes to us. I am sure they are hungry and fresh for the rest of the season.

“It was a good all-round performance against Villa. We scored a lot of goals and were solid in defence.

“We were clinical and that is what we have to be moving forward. I'm sure they are going to be even better in the future.

“We had a lot of injuries during a difficult period and lost quality players at an important time. But we have got a lot of them back now and hopefully we can push on for the rest of the season. We want to build up our momentum.”

Although Liverpool are favourites for the tie, Clyne is wary of the challenge that awaits them at the WWK Arena but reveals he is highly motivated by the potential prize at the end of the tournament.

“We know Augsburg will be difficult but we want to get into the next round and keep winning so that we reach the final,” he added.

“It would be great if we could win that cup. We know it offers a route to the Champions League and we are taking it seriously.”
