Earlier this season, the Reds beat Villa 3-2 at Anfield. James Milner scored his first goal for the club in the second minute, before both teams scored twice each in 13 second-half minutes – with braces from Daniel Sturridge and Rudy Gestede, who found the net alternately.

Last season, Liverpool won 2-0 at Villa Park with both Fabio Borini and substitute Rickie Lambert scoring their final goal for the club.

In the Premier League era, the Reds have won 25 meetings and Villa 12, with the other 10 being drawn; at Villa Park, there have been 12 victories, six defeats and five stalemates.

They have lost just one of the last 17 league visits to Villa Park, with the winning goal for the home team in May 2011 coming from Stewart Downing.

Liverpool have won 85 points against Villa in the Premier League – more than against any other team.

The Reds have also scored more league goals in their history (317) against Villa than against any other side.

Despite their outstanding recent history at Villa Park, they look for their first league double over today's opponents since 2005-06 and only their fourth since 1983-84.

There have been five in total, with Bobby Graham (1964), Michael Owen (2000) and Steven Gerrard (2009) achieving the feat at Anfield.

Milner played 126 times for Villa in league and cup in a stay from 2008 to 2010 which followed a loan spell with the club in 2005-06. He scored 22 goals.

Meanwhile, Christian Benteke played 101 matches in total and scored 49 goals during his time at Villa – with 42 coming in 89 league games.

Jordon Ibe could make his 50th appearance in league and cup for Liverpool in this match.

Villa are unbeaten in their last four home league games for the first time since January 2015, when they went five without defeat.

In 2016 so far, they have won two of their three home league games, having only won three of 19 in the previous calendar year.

Last weekend's win over Norwich City was only their second at Villa Park this season. They defeated Crystal Palace in January.
