Jordan Henderson insisted the result was all-important – and deserved – after Liverpool prevailed 5-4 in a sensational clash with Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday.

The Reds captain scored the fifth of the nine goals in the Barclays Premier League thriller to help turn the tide in the favour of Jürgen Klopp’s men en route to three points in the most dramatic fashion.

They had trailed 3-1 early in the second half as Roberto Firmino’s opener drew responses from Dieumerci Mbokani, Steven Naismith and Wes Hoolahan for the Canaries.

But Henderson struck back, followed by Firmino and James Milner, and though Sebastien Bassong restored parity in stoppage time, Adam Lallana popped up to win it for Liverpool with 95 minutes on the clock.

“There were a lot of ups and downs in the game but overall we have come out with three points,” the skipper told Liverpoolfc.com post-match.

“Over the last couple of games, the performances have been good but we haven’t got the results. Today we got the result and that’s very important for us.

“At half-time we came out and we knew we still had to win the game, there was still a long way to go. In the second half, I thought we were brilliant – hunting the ball back, getting it back quickly and creating chances. For me, we thoroughly deserved to win.”

The frantic, end-to-end nature of the second half will perhaps make the match a difficult one to analyse, but Henderson immediately identified two areas that Liverpool must improve in.

He said: “One thing we’ve got to improve on is sharing the goals among everyone, all of the forward players getting into the box.

“We managed to score some good goals. But we’ve still got a lot of work to do in not conceding goals. We’ll look at that over the next day or two.”
