Bordeaux will come up against a much more confident Liverpool this evening, insists Dejan Lovren, as Jürgen Klopp's team target a place in the Europa League knockout stages with a win.

The two sides met in their Group B opener back in September, playing out a 1-1 draw in France after the hosts equalised late on.

It was the same scoreline for the Reds in subsequent clashes with FC Sion and Rubin Kazan at Anfield but a victory over the latter in Russia earlier this month has put qualification in sight.

Lovren believes that can be achieved tonight, particularly with spirits high following the comprehensive triumph secured over Manchester City last time out.

The defender told Liverpoolfc.com: “We’re searching for the win – it’s as simple as that. We want to pass through the group.

“We know it will be a tough game but we are more confident and we just need to think about ourselves, to be calm and enjoy our game. We are enjoying playing and that’s the most important thing in football.

“I didn’t travel to Bordeaux but I saw the game on TV. It was quite a tough game, but still a good result for us, 1-1 there.

“It’s completely different for us after we had so many changes in the team, with the new manager and everything. It will definitely be a different game – we have more confidence than the last one.”

Liverpool have only scored more than once at Anfield on one occasion so far this season – a statistic the players will be keen to amend against Bordeaux.

With Daniel Sturridge’s return to training continuing to progress smoothly, the manager has a number of attacking options at his disposal.

And if the goals don’t arrive in the quickfire fashion that they did at the Etihad Stadium, it shouldn’t be a problem according to Lovren.

He said: “We know that some teams want to defend much deeper. But we know how to play against these teams, so we just need to move the ball quicker.

“There will be a little pressure on us, especially after the last game against Manchester City – everyone expects quick goals! But we just need to be patient during that time. If we defend well all together, then we can score.”
