Alberto Moreno views today's trip to Tottenham Hotspur as an opportunity for he and his teammates to make a positive first impression on new boss Jürgen Klopp.

The German faces a tough start to his Anfield reign as the Reds travel to face a Spurs side who have avoided defeat in each of their last seven league outings.

Moreno is in contention to start the game at left-back and, if selected, is hoping to make a strong case for a regular place in the XI under Klopp.

The 23-year-old believes his colleagues will also be out to capitalise on a fresh start.

"A new manager has arrived, he wants to get to know all of us and everyone wants to do their best to create a good impression," he told Liverpoolfc.com.

"I think, though, that we should have done this from the beginning of the season, not from now; however, we have this chance now and all the players will give 100 per cent to do our best on Saturday.

"After the arrival of the new manager, if we win on Saturday it will make us feel very positive and that will be really good for the team.

"Despite this, I think it is better to take it game by game."

The Spaniard also revealed his hope that the first game under Klopp can be the start of a productive run that prompts an improvement in league position.

"It’s true that the team didn’t find the right dynamics to win consecutive games or to get more points, but the table is there, our position on it is there and I think we deserve it because of how we played," he added.

"Now it is time to stand up and set Liverpool up for a run of positive results, which is what the team deserves, and we have to fight to get as many good results as possible during this season."

Saturday's fixture sees Moreno return to the scene of arguably his finest Liverpool moment - a memorable solo goal against Mauricio Pochettino's side early last season which you can watch for free here.

Of the strike, the defender said: "When I got the ball, I looked at the goal and I didn’t look at any other player.

"I was very determined to shoot when I got the chance. I managed to do it and luckily it went in.

"I felt very happy and I really wanted to celebrate it with all Liverpool fans that went down to London.

"I also thought of my family and all the things we did to achieve this. So once you are here and you score your first goal that soon… It is a beautiful moment."

Liverpool are without a clean sheet in their last eight games in all competitions, a run that stretches back to the three consecutive shut-outs that started the season.

And Moreno admits that this poor run 'hurts' him and his fellow defenders.

"It is very frustrating when you are a defender and the team concedes," he continued.

"It is very hard, it hurts so much and it is not nice at all but when this happens we have great players who can turn the situation around by scoring goals.

"But yes, as a defender it hurts and I don’t like it."
