Jürgen Klopp discussed an array of topics in his first press conference as Liverpool manager, from the style of football he hopes to instil to the moment he imagined himself as Reds boss. Read on to see a summary of the key points.

On the honour of joining LFC...
It's the biggest honour I can imagine to be here. For me, it's one of the biggest clubs in the world [that] has given me this opportunity to try to help in a situation that's not so difficult like all the people in this room think. It's not the perfect moment, of course, but I think it's a good moment to come here. So I feel really proud.

On the attraction of Anfield...
The intensity of the football, how the people live football in Liverpool, around Liverpool, all Liverpool fans all over the world. It's not a normal club, it's a special club. I had two very, very special clubs in Mainz and Dortmund and this role is the perfect next step for me.

On the aims for the season...
For sure, the Premier League is one of the most difficult in the world, because five, six, seven clubs can be the champion. At the end, only one is the champion and all the others are disappointed and live in the middle of a 'disaster' or something. I think this is the most important moment for development and we have to develop, of course, not because of the situation now but because the situation of the last year. This is the start and this would be a good moment for a restart. In this moment nobody knows who the winner of the Premier League is but it's only important that we play our own game, that the players feel the confidence and trust of the people.

On signing players...
It was not a problem for [even] 10 seconds. We talked about it of course but I'm not an idiot so I don't want to say the same thing I said yesterday. For me it's enough to have the first and the last word and the middle words we can discuss whatever. It doesn't take a long time because we only want to discuss about very good players and it's discussing on the highest level I hope and that's what we have to do. I'm not a genius, I don't know more than the rest of the world, I need the other people to get the perfect information. When we have this, then we will sign a player or sell a player or whatever. It's really easy to handle this.

On a pre-season trip to Anfield with Dortmund...
I'm not a dreamer in this way but I'm a football romantic, I love all the stories, all the histories about this. And of course Anfield is one of the best places in the football world, for sure. It was my first time at Anfield and I came in and a little bit I thought about how it would be - now I'm here. Good for me I'm a lucky guy. It's a really good moment for me and I'm really looking forward to the first training with the players, the first match. I'm prepared, I'm really relaxed, I had four months' holiday, everything's perfect and I would say I'm in best shape.

On expectations...
Yes it's 25 years ago [since Liverpool won the title]. In this time all the people have tried to get better, to improve, to take the next title. But history is only the base for us, [it's something] other people are interested in, it's not allowed that we put the history - a big history - in the backpack and carry it all day. It's not very important.

On the current squad...
This is a great club with a really good team, great potential, fast players, strong players, good defenders, flexible, creative, everything's there. Some players are injured, that's normal, we really have to try and create a new way. I think this is the perfect moment to do this because now, really, everything is different. Here is the German guy, the first time, let's try to use this because I don't know all but I'm a pretty good listener and I want to listen now. I go to Melwood, see what will work, what doesn't work, and everything about it, and then we play football.

On his popularity...
I don't want to describe myself, the only thing I can say is ask 'does anyone in this room think that I can do wonders?'. No? So let me work. I am a totally normal guy, I'm from the Black Forest, my mother is maybe sitting in front of the television watching this press conference and understanding no words and is very proud. I'm the totally normal guy - I'm the normal one, maybe.

On his style of football...
I'm not here today to talk too much about football because the team is not back, I haven't met my team yet. I need to go to them first of all and talk to them about football. Everybody knows me and I can't change in four months, of course it's emotion inside, it's deep. I looked for the word in English - a transition game? You will see this and of course all the things that make football interesting for me I want to see on the pitch. We have to see how much time we need to bring this and of course in this time we have to win games, we have to make points, all these things are true. But this is not the day for promising some style of football I said it worked for other clubs but I cannot always say the same things. Let's start work and let's speak next week

On his sabbatical...
Most of the time in my life I had no money to go on holiday and the next day I had no time - now I have [had] four months! It was really cool. I spent time with my family, I watched many things, I read many things, I played a lot of tennis, I watched football all over the world. That's what I did, everything was OK. Now I'm here I'm really relaxed and everything is fine.

On the owners...
The thing I said when I left Dortmund is I will see what happens. If somebody calls me and I feel it is a good fit then let's do it, and that's what we did. I had a very, very good feeling with FSG. We had a good meeting and after this it was clear I needed to stop being on holiday and start to work and here we are.

On similarities with Dortmund...
I think it's impossible to compare the two clubs. OK, it's a similar situation, nobody is satisfied in this moment, the position in the table is similar and things like this. But of course it's different, we don't have a pre-season, and we are near the middle of the season with some matches played. But it's not important. We did in Dortmund what we had to do to improve the players, to work together with them, to work for a common idea of play - that's what we did. It's the same thing we want to do here. They are not the same players of course, these players are better, more experienced in some cases, younger in other cases. But everything is OK.

On comparisons with past managers...
I told you I'm a normal guy and I don't compare myself to these other managers in Liverpool's history. It's really not important. It's cool that all the fans are looking forward to the work for the next few years and months with me but it's not my part to think about this. I only have to work and not one of these great managers said in their first press conference 'my target or my goal is to be a legend at the end of my time here' so I don't think this. This is a great club because of many, many great decisions in the past and good players and now we have to work in the present.
