Simon Mignolet has insisted his Liverpool teammates can be pleased with their performance in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Everton, with the goalkeeper lamenting a moment of misfortune for the Reds' failure to claim all three points.

Danny Ings looked to have given Brendan Rodgers' team a lead to take into the break at Goodison Park when he headed in from a corner but, seconds from the half-time whistle sounding, Romelu Lukaku brought the Toffees level from close range.

The Belgian striker received a slice of good luck when Emre Can's clearance bounced into his path off Martin Skrtel, but finished coolly to put the hosts back on terms.

Mignolet believes Brendan Rodgers' side were somewhat unlucky to concede in such a manner, and he had few complaints about the efforts of his teammates otherwise.

"I think it was a really good game, a typical derby game - up and down the pitch," he told Liverpoolfc.com.

"Both teams had chances and it ended up in a draw unfortunately but I think we had a good performance, especially first half.

"We created some chances, unfortunately we didn't manage to score the second goal, but I think everybody can be pleased with their individual performances."

On his compatriot's goal, the 27-year-old added: "It's a bit unfortunate, the ball bounces round in the box and falls at the feet of Romelu, who finishes it well.

"We scored just beforehand and you want to go in at half-time with a 1-0 lead, unfortunately that didn't happen.

"But I think everyone came out fighting second half."

Mignolet made two crucial contributions to the Reds earning a point at Goodison, pulling off remarkable stops from Steven Naismith and James McCarthy attempts in the first period with the score at 0-0.

And the goalkeeper says he is working hard every day in training to ensure he can make those saves at key moments.

"That's why you're a goalkeeper, you want to make those saves," he continued.

"I hope I can make some more of those to be important for the team, that's what I'll try and keep fighting for and keep improving my game [for] - to make sure that I can help the team in those certain crucial moments.

"I'll do my best to do that again."

The No.22 also talked up the importance of picking up a point away from home against Roberto Martinez's side ahead of the international break and the difficult run of fixtures that follows.

"Every point away from home is always a good one and we've got some massive fixtures after the international break, away from home as well," he said.

"Hopefully we can do well in those also and pick up some points.

"We've got the break now so we've got some time to recover then play those games with Belgium, personally.

"When we come back we've got some big games in October."
