Jordon Ibe and Joe Gomez made encouraging debuts for England U21s as the young Lions beat USA U23s 1-0 at Preston North End’s Deepdale on Thursday night.

Gomez was at right-back on the same flank as his Anfield colleague, Ibe, who was playing on the wing.

Both players featured for an hour in Gareth Southgate’s team, while former Academy star Marc Pelosi was in the USA side.

Ibe had some lively moments in attack while Gomez was cool and composed at the back.

The only goal arrived in the 72nd minute when Manchester United youngster James Wilson fired home.

Divock Origi appeared as an 82nd minute substitute for Belgium as they came from behind to beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-1. Simon Mignolet was an unused substitute.

Edin Dzeko had fired Bosnia into the lead, but goals from Marouane Fellaini, Kevin De Bruyne and an Eden Hazard penalty saw the hosts take the points.

Origi almost scored himself from a Hazard assist but Liverpool’s No.27 was denied by a fine stop.

Liverpool youngsters Jordan Williams and Danny Ward remained on the bench as Chris Coleman’s Wales took a giant leap towards qualifying for Euro 2016 after a 1-0 win over Cyprus, thanks to a stunning Gareth Bale header.
