Ian Rush admits he has been more than satisfied with the way Liverpool have started the season and is hoping the Reds can head into the international break on the back of another victory against West Ham United today.

The Hammers haven’t won at Anfield since 1963 and Brendan Rodgers’ charges have so far taken seven points out of a possible nine.

Rush believes Rodgers and his players should take a lot of credit for the manner in which they have opened the campaign.

The club's all-time record goalscorer told Liverpoolfc.com: “The start of the season has been good. People say ‘they haven’t played well’, but it doesn’t matter, points are on the board.

“In the first game at Stoke, especially after the result on the final day of last season, it was vital we didn’t lose there. Brendan got the team together, they worked hard and it was a special goal from Coutinho.

“Bournemouth are a newly-promoted team and of course they are going to want to do well.

“In the first half against Arsenal we were superb. They gelled straight from the start and I thought they played some really good football.

“Arsenal were better in the second half, but we did enough to win it and that has given us a lot of confidence.

“We have taken seven points from three games and not let a goal in. The players are getting more and more confident.

“We have another big game coming up on Saturday and it would be great to make it 10 points out of 12.

“[The players] will be thinking West Ham are a team we are expected to beat at home, so I think if we can go into the international break with a win then we will have done really well.”
