Ahead of today’s Anfield clash with West Ham United, Liverpool fan Donavan Chandler reflects on the Reds’ promising start to 2015-16…

It's been an encouraging start to the new Premier League season and we maintained our unbeaten record with a 0-0 draw at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium on Monday night, but things could have been even better had it not been for the unquestionable brilliance of Petr Cech in the home goal.  On another night we could have been out of sight before half-time.

The Czech goalkeeper brilliantly denied efforts from Christian Benteke and Philippe Coutinho to keep our boys at bay in the opening 45 minutes and we created other chances to boot. Elements of Liverpool's attacking play ranged from cute to sublime - to purely unlucky - and it's enough to suggest that we are well equipped for matches against direct rivals later on in the season. Encouraging signs indeed.

After one of the most demanding away trips of the entire campaign was favourably negotiated on Monday night, respective away trips against Manchester United, Everton, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City, between now and mid-November lie in wait and it’s a series of tests that this new look Liverpool squad will relish.

We are still yet to concede a goal in the Premier League this season - that's a huge 270 minutes of football without a breach. It's proof that progress has been made by the team over the summer months. The team look extremely well drilled, up for the task and capable of shutting matches down. If we can continue in a similar manner and look to extend the record - especially over those crunch away fixtures - we'll certainly be challenging at the top of the table as we head towards Christmas and that’s exactly where we want to be.

Said records aren't unfamiliar to Liverpool - the club went 596 minutes without conceding last season - but what's particularly impressive is the fact that young Joe Gomez has featured in every game so far and has contributed to that run of clean sheets. He has already shown great potential and has quickly settled into life at Liverpool and all credit must go to the 18-year-old, who this week celebrated a call up to Gareth Southgate's England U21 team. Its reward for his good form so far this season and long may it continue, he certainly has a bright future ahead of him and thoroughly deserves the call up.

Back to the game on Saturday though and Brendan and the team must be wary of the challenge ahead. West Ham have had a mixed start to this season but they are a dangerous team. After all, they arguably produced the biggest shock of the season so far by beating Arsenal on the opening day of the season with a brilliant all-round performance and they are capable of producing a similar performance on Saturday.

They have a number of important players to watch out for and a couple of injuries but we have every reason to be confident given the start we have made so far this season. Here's hoping for a repeat of last season’s corresponding fixture… three more points and another clean sheet would go down very nicely.
