Liverpool will face Carlisle United at Anfield in the third round of the Capital One Cup after the draw was made on Tuesday evening.

Brendan Rodgers' team begin their quest for success on home soil against the League Two outfit, who defeated Queens Park Rangers to reach this stage.

The tie will be played in the week commencing September 21.

It means a first meeting between the sides since January 1989, when the Reds claimed a 3-0 win on the road in the FA Cup.

Liverpool have lifted the League Cup on eight occasions, more than any other club, and most recently at Wembley in 2012.

Rodgers’ charges reached the semi-finals of the competition last season but were narrowly eliminated by Chelsea over two legs.
