With a 'predator' at one end of the pitch, two clean sheets already at the other and a tenacious team spirit, Adam Lallana insists Liverpool will travel to Arsenal aiming for three points.

The Reds followed up their 1-0 victory at Stoke City on the opening weekend by beating Bournemouth with the same scoreline at Anfield.

Summer signing Christian Benteke was the match-winner, converting at the back post in front of the Kop 26 minutes into the first home game of the season.

On his Anfield debut, the Belgian striker showed exactly why Brendan Rodgers was so keen to secure his signature - with a mix of power, aerial dominance and movement.

Lallana has been among those tasked with supporting Benteke in attack so far, providing the perfect vantage point to see what the new No.9 is bringing to the side.

“It was a real poacher’s finish,” he said of Monday's goal. “It was a great ball in from Hendo and Benteke is a predator in the box.

“That finish was brilliant technically – getting good contact on the ball like that. He almost got another one at the end when he hit the crossbar. That’s what he’s all about.

“He’s a big presence up there. He’s great in the air and good with his feet. He brings teammates into play.”

Bournemouth brushed off Benteke's opener at Anfield to trouble Liverpool on several occasions in the second half of the Barclays Premier League fixture.

Eddie Howe’s newly-promoted outfit tested the hosts’ resolve by controlling possession at times and mounting pressure as the full-time whistle neared.

But, as at Stoke, Rodgers' charges summoned the defensive solidity and collective determination to see out the game and claim the spoils.

“It was a big result for us,” Lallana reflected. “Six points out of six and two clean sheets – that’s massive for us confidence-wise.

“They made us fight for the three points. We’ve played them a couple of times in cup competitions in the past few seasons so we knew it was going to be tough, in many ways even tougher than Stoke.

“People were bigging up that game but this was a potential banana skin. Eddie Howe has them playing some great stuff and they are quite attacking.

“We dug in and got the three points with another clean sheet. We’re going to have to scrap for results this year.

“People asked questions about our mentality and our fighting spirit last week at Stoke. We showed that there and we took it into the Bournemouth game. Sometimes you have to win a game 1-0. It was massively important for us.

“We know there’s room for improvement and we’re working hard in training to achieve that. But I also think it’s important to see this side of us.

“There’s no doubt we have a lot of ability in the squad and I think you’ll see our performances improve over the coming weeks.”

Next up for the Reds is a trip to the Emirates Stadium, for an early meeting with a top-four rival.

Rodgers and his team have a full week to prepare with the match again on a Monday evening, and Lallana pledged that the players will be ready to raise their performance level.

He added: “We’ll go to Arsenal with a game-plan to keep this run going. We’ve got a full week to prepare for Arsenal now. Hopefully we can go there and put on a good show.

“They are always difficult games against the top four. They are good teams. Arsenal will be tough but we have a week to prepare for it.

“The manager will set us up to get a result there. We’ve had two clean sheets in two games and we’ll be looking for a third on Monday night. We’re going there to try to get the win.”
