Sheyi Ojo is determined to build on a first appearance for Wolverhampton Wanderers that saw the Liverpool youngster create a goal in a League Cup victory for his loan team.

Earlier this month the 18-year-old joined the Championship club on a youth loan deal for the season, having first signed a long-term contract with the Reds.

Ojo was introduced as a late substitute in Wolves’ league opener at Blackburn Rovers at the weekend, before starting against Newport County on Tuesday night.

The attacker played the whole game and set up his side’s equaliser as they recovered to claim a 2-1 victory in front of almost 10,000 at Molineux.

“It was a great win for us and hopefully we can push forward and have the same results,” Ojo later said.

“I thought it was a good game. It was my first game and hopefully I can improve as the season goes on, keep getting better and add some goals as well.

“It’s a great stadium and the fans are amazing. It was a really happy moment for me. I’m happy to have made my home debut and I’m looking forward to the next game.”

He added: “They kept a good structure and made it hard for us to break through them. But luckily we got the first goal and then we started our momentum from there.

“We have got a great team with good attacking options; we’re always going to create chances, and we were able to take two of them.”
