Christian Benteke has insisted that the pressures that come with playing for Liverpool Football Club will only inspire him to greater heights.

The Belgian striker became Brendan Rodgers' seventh signing of the summer transfer window when he swapped Aston Villa for Anfield last month.

Benteke scored 42 goals in 89 Barclays Premier League appearances for the Midlands club following his arrival from Genk in 2012, and last season played a crucial role in their late escape from the relegation battle.

But the expectations on his shoulders are only likely to increase when he pulls on the famous red shirt, with regular European football and the pursuit of silverware a must each season at Anfield.

The 24-year-old is unfazed by that fact, however, believing he can continue his impressive scoring rate on Merseyside.

"I believe I can produce the goals, but I am not alone here. That is the good thing. I have players behind me and around me," he said.

"I knew if I joined a big club I would have some pressure, so I am ready for this challenge. I will work hard and not worry about things. I think the pressure will bring the best out of me."

Benteke made the best possible start to his Liverpool career on Sunday as he thrashed home a brilliant volley from outside the box during a 2-1 friendly win over Swindon Town.

But, while the Belgium international was pleased with the strike, he has vowed to do his talking on the pitch rather than make any promises about his future output.

"It is nice to start with a goal, especially for a striker with a confidence and I hope I can do the same in the league. I was happy with the contact," he added.

"I don’t like to speak about what I am going to do, I like to speak on the pitch. I am going to do the best for the team and for myself."
