Glen Johnson has every faith that Liverpool can maintain their trend of achieving FA Cup progress away from home and book a place in the tournament's semi-finals.

The Reds were hoping to seal a spot in the last four, and with it a journey to Wembley, by overcoming Blackburn Rovers at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

But they found the Championship outfit in resolute form, organised in every area of the pitch and with the capacity to counter-attack effectively where possible.

Brendan Rodgers' side could not summon a winner on home soil and the two teams will therefore have to meet again in a replay at Ewood Park to settle the tie.

Liverpool have been victorious in each of their previous three away fixtures in the FA Cup, seeing off AFC Wimbledon, Bolton Wanderers and Crystal Palace.

So Johnson refused to be too downbeat in the aftermath of the stalemate with Blackburn.

The defender told the Liverpool Echo: "We just didn't play to our best today. That happens sometimes. Blackburn played well and made it tough.

"It's frustrating. Everyone wanted to win the game but the most important thing is that we're in the hat for the semi-finals.

"That's football - you aren't going to play to the best of your ability in every game. Whether you play well or not, the most important thing is that you don't go out of the cup.

"Hopefully we'll play better in the replay and get the win we want. You've got to give Blackburn a lot of credit because they worked hard. They got men behind the ball and defended well.

"But we're still confident we can go through. Hopefully we can pick up our performance and go through in the replay.

"The fixture list isn't too crowded for us now so having a replay isn't a big problem. We've got plenty of time on the training ground in between matches to work on things now."
